Summer Financial Aid
Note: for financial aid purposes Summer I and Summer II are treated as one enrollment
period. You will not receive any financial aid until you are actively taking classes.
In order to be reviewed for Summer 2022 financial aid eligibility students must have
a 2021-2022 FAFSA on file. To ensure you have a 2021-2022 FAFSA on file please review your your SBCC Pipeline account. A Summer Federal Pell Grant award depends upon the student's grant usage
in the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. Once Summer is awarded students will be
notified via Pipeline email.
Summer Federal Pell Grant Eligibility-Students who had Full Time enrollment status during Fall 2021 and Spring 2022
A student who used 100% of their Federal Pell Grant award for the Fall 2021 and Spring
2022 semesters may be eligible for an additional Pell Grant Award for the Summer 2022
period of enrollment. Students may have more Pell Grant eligibility for Summer if they:
- Are enrolled in a total of 6 units (half time) in the Summer
- Have Lifetime Pell Grant Eligibility remaining
- Are meeting all other eligibility requirements to receive financial aid
- Are meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
A student who receives a Summer Federal Pell Grant and does not maintain enrollment in at least 6 units, may lose all or part of their Summer award and will likely have to repay the college.
Summer Federal Pell Grant Eligibility-Students with Part Time enrollment status for Fall 2021 and/or Spring 2022
A student who used part of their Federal Pell Grant for Fall 2021 and/or Spring 2022 semester may have remaining Pell Grant eligibility for the Summer semester.
Federal Direct Loans- Student and PLUS
Students may apply for Federal Direct Loans and/or alternative loans for the Summer
semester. Maximum loan eligibility is based on the student’s grade level and dependency status. If a student is requesting a Federal Direct loan for the first time in the 2021-2022
aid year they must complete all steps outlined in our website: SBCC Loans 'How do I request a Direct Loan'. Students may have Direct Loan eligibility for Summer if they:
- Have not already borrowed the maximum loan amount for the year
- Are meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
